Ep. 888: The Snowman Race in Bhutan - Nate Bender

Ep. 888: The Snowman Race in Bhutan - Nate Bender

Nate is a trail runner and climate activist based in Missoula, Montana. His personal and professional focus is to use both his voice as a mountain athlete and skills in marketing & data science to catalyze a climate-friendly world.

He races occasionally, but primarily specializes in fastest known time (FKT) challenges and loves the creative process of dreaming up new linkups. His most recent FKT was the first-known continuous linkup of the tallest peaks in Glacier National Park, Montana; a solo, unsupported six-day effort covering 150 miles and nearly 60k feet of ascent.

Nate holds a master’s degree in Resource Conservation — which focuses on the social science of climate action — and is currently in an additional master’s degree in Business Analytics. He is a member of the Protect Our Winters Athlete Alliance and also works as the Marketing Director for Footprints Running, a nonprofit climate action incubator.

These backgrounds and passions made Nate a perfect candidate for the The Snowman Race, which follows the trail of the famous Snowman Trek, which has been completed by fewer people than Everest. Covering 126 miles (203 kilometers) through the wild and challenging terrains with mountain passes as high as 17,946 feet (5470M) the Snowman Race is an ultra-marathon, challenging the world’s fittest and most elite runners to help raise awareness of the impacts of climate change.

Ep. 301: Conquering 30 Years of Anxiety Through Adventure - Paula McGuire

Paula ‘Must Try Harder’ McGuire isn’t exactly your average adventurer. She doesn’t even own a sleeping bag. In fact, Paula spent her early years hiding from life and seeking better places to hide, eventually finding her world shrinking to the confines of her own home without an escape route. Thirty years of crippling social anxiety will do that to a girl. Adventure became Paula’s personal therapy in 2012 and, ever since, she has terrified herself daily in the name of recovery. So far, it’s working. www.paulamusttryharder.co.uk Kickstarter: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1449974390/the-big-mad-swim-around-britain-the-movie Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Ep. 297: Thru Hiking the Ice Age National Scenic Trail - Luke Kloberdanz

Ep. 297: Thru Hiking the Ice Age National Scenic Trail - Luke Kloberdanz

Luke Kloberdanz visits with Curt about his thru hike of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, a thousand-mile footpath that highlights these landscape features as it travels through some of the state’s most beautiful natural areas. The Trail is entirely within Wisconsin and is one of only eleven National Scenic Trails. But the Ice Age Trail is more than a path through the woods. It is a place for mental and physical rejuvenation, a place to unwind after a hard day and enjoy the landscape of Wisconsin. More than 1 million people use the Ice Age Trail each year to hike and snowshoe, to backpack, to disconnect and reconnect. Behind the scenes, a vibrant community of volunteers across the state work to build and maintain the Trail, making it one of the country’s best hiking experiences.   www.iceagetrail.org Twitter @iceagetrailorg Facebook: iceagetrail   Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/adventure-sports-podcast/donations Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brands Privacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
