Originally published May 25, 2017 A few years back, Yannick Chaigneau and Shirley Lam set out on an epic adventure they call the transcontinental triathlon. They started in Alaska and kayaked the inside passage down to Washington. After that, they thru-hiked the entire Pacific Crest Trail down to Mexico. Once off the trail, they hopped on their bikes to complete the journey of a lifetime by biking their way down through Central and South America to Ushuaia. They even did some mountaineering to keep from being bored on the bikes. Our lives as adventurers take totally unforeseen turns. It's the nature of the adventures themselves to do so. Whenever I was starting to plan my first big adventures, one of my biggest questions was, how do people pay for these experiences? What I've learned is that there's no real secret out there. It's a lot of grinding, budgeting, side gigs, sacrifice, asking, etc. The process of funding your adventure is honestly an entirely separate and equally difficult adventure. For me, the preparation and planning was half the excitement and joy of adventures, and often was a much longer experience than the trip itself.   This won't be a super organized or hugely insightful episode, just more of my thoughts and experiences on the subject.  I hope you enjoy and I hope you share your adventure-funding tips and tricks with us!
