This is Torrevieja News - Friday 12 June 2026

Here is your evening news round-up for Torrevieja and the wider Alicante province for Friday 12 June 2026.

In local news, Torrevieja Town Hall has completed a Mediterranean planting upgrade at the Aromatic Park to support local biodiversity. Meanwhile, the highly anticipated €61 million Paseo del Mar leisure complex at Torrevieja port officially opened last night with a spectacular 150-drone light show, though surrounding municipal roadworks remain significantly behind schedule.

Torrevieja Council progresses the 1.98 million euro redevelopment of the Casa Grande industrial estate, promised before the last elections, with five companies competing for the phase one upgrades. Meanwhile, public transport (not in Torrevieja) gets a major boost with new buses running every 35 minutes from Orihuela to the coast, alongside 17 daily trips to Alicante.

On a more serious note, the Guardia Civil dismantles a violent "loving hug" robbery gang targeting vulnerable elderly residents across Alicante and neighbouring regions. In Elche, a wave of opportunistic thefts disrupts local schools and businesses, resulting in two arrests. Finally, we share details from a dramatic Alicante courtroom where a jury is deliberating a horrific homicide and body dismemberment trial.

Plus, on a lighter note, Valencia prepares for a massive influx of global visitors as it hosts the Gay Games.
