What Would You Give Up to Get More?

Daily Boost Podcast What Would You Give Up to Get More? July 17, 2026 | Episode 5500 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Happy Friday. I sat down this week and did the show differently — just notes from the gym, a microphone, and the things I've been thinking about. Today it comes down to one line, maybe the truest one I've ever coined: more is on the other side of less. I'm sharing the inventory I took of my own life at the end of June, what I decided to cut, and a lesson from my days mixing audio for a live band that shows exactly how subtraction creates clarity. Whatever more means to you, it's waiting. Featured Story For two and a half years, I served as an audio tech at my church, mixing a live band for the worship service. One day nothing sounded right. Given it was a cafeteria, it never sounded amazing, but that day it was bad. The lead tech walked over and said, you need to get some stuff out of there. Subtract some of the audio. He started pulling away parts of the frequencies coming off the stage, and something clicked. Every voice and instrument was fighting for the same space. Removing what they shared cut the mud and added clarity. The mix didn't need more. It needed less. Important Points More is on the other side of less. Whatever you want — satisfaction, happiness, money — it comes after the cutting. Take an inventory of your life and pay attention to it. Keep what doesn't suck and start cutting the stuff that does. You don't have to turn anything up. Get rid of what's dragging you and let the rest play. Clarity shows up on its own. Memorable Quotes More is on the other side of less. Whatever more means to you — satisfaction, happiness, money — it comes after less. A lot of the stuff in your life you don't really love. You just got it, and you've been doing it for a while now. You remove the mud, and you add clarity to the mix. Trim the frequencies of your life, and suddenly you can hear yourself. Scott's Three-Step Approach Start by taking a full inventory of your life, the same one I take myself. Mark what sucks and mark what doesn't suck. Then cut or turn down whatever drags you down, even good things that share space with better ones. Remove all the mud. Finally, resist adding anything new. Let what's left play clean and enjoy a freedom you haven't felt in a long time.
