A Panic Attack in Costco (Why Your Nervous System Still Freaks Out Sometimes)

A Panic Attack in Costco (Why Your Nervous System Still Freaks Out Sometimes)

You've been doing the work. Learning how to regulate your nervous system. Feeling your feelings instead of trying to fix them. You're basically Calm AF....so why does an email still send you into a full-blown panic attack in the middle of Costco?

In this episode, I'm sharing the story of a client who found herself asking the same question. She was so upset that after years of doing this would still happen. And the answer isn't that she's not getting better. Her nervous system did exactly what it was designed to do.

You need to understand that nervous system healing isn't about never feeling anxious again, that additional stress can make old survival patterns more likely to resurface, and why learning from a spinout is way more helpful than judging yourself for having one.

I'm bringing back a favorite calm AF character: the Bouncer and why it's so important to remember to put the bouncer at the door to help you run everything through a filter: does THIS input get to come in right now?

If you've ever gotten frustrated over why you're still getting triggered even though you're making real progress, this episode will remind you that the occasional hard day doesn't erase years of work. Your nervous system is always gonna nervous system but you are rewiring it every time you practice.

In this episode, you'll learn:

  • Why panic attacks can still happen even after years of nervous system healing.
  • How stress and life changes make old survival responses more likely to reappear.
  • What the "bouncer at the door" technique is and how to use it with everyday triggers.
  • How to review a panic attack with curiosity instead of self-judgment.
  • Why your progress is measured by how you recover—not by never getting triggered.
