What Bryan Kohberger's Family Learned From A Reporter

Bryan Kohberger's family spent years putting him back together — rehab, two degrees, a doctoral program. They earned the word proud and meant it. Then a judge read four consecutive life terms, and their son walked past his mother without turning his head.
On July 27, 2026, Kohberger filed a handwritten post-conviction petition from his cell, representing himself. He named the three attorneys who kept him off death row and called their work ineffective. He claims he was convinced to falsely confess and misled about what a life sentence would really mean. He told a reporter at the New York Times before he told the people who rebuilt his life.
