A 1967 Murder Solved by DNA in 2025. Louisa Dunne Is a Preview of What's Coming. | MMA Mini

A murder from 1967. A 92-year-old man convicted in 2025. And DNA evidence recovered from a skirt that sat in storage for 57 years. Louisa Dunne's case isn't just a remarkable true crime story — Kevin thinks it's a preview of what's about to happen to dozens of cases that everyone has quietly accepted will never be solved.

First, some follow-up on the James Renner special from last Wednesday. Kevin clarifies why he felt the need to address Renner's Amy Bradley book publicly: Renner has a documented history of sensationalizing cases, alienating families who don't cooperate — as he did with the Maura Murray family — and prioritizing his own narrative over the known facts. Having just completed an extensive series on Amy's case with access to her family, friends, eyewitnesses, and the former U.S. assistant attorney who convened the grand jury, Kevin felt it was necessary to push back on claims in the book that contradict the established record. He wishes Renner well and genuinely hopes he uses his real writing talent to do better by the victims and families he covers.

On Louisa Dunne: Part 2 drops this Friday. What Kevin finds most significant about her case is not just the conviction — it's how it happened. Forensic genetic genealogy, the same technology pioneered by labs like Othram Labs, allowed investigators to extract a usable DNA profile from physical evidence that had been in storage since 1967 and cross-reference it against modern databases. A 92-year-old man who murdered a 75-year-old woman in Bristol, England and went on to commit further offenses — serving only seven years — was finally identified and convicted. Kevin believes cases like this are going to become a pattern, not an exception. If you're not already following Othram Labs on Facebook and X, he recommends it — they announce new case resolutions regularly.

On the fall series: the planned Henry Lee Lucas false confession series has been set aside. Kevin found the source material thinner than expected and doesn't want to stretch it into a full series without enough substance. The fall is now open, and he's asking listeners for input. If you have an idea for a deep-dive series — similar in scope to the Amy Bradley series, six to twelve episodes of strong, well-documented material — send it to midnightmysteryarchive@gmail.com, the Facebook group, or X.

Coming up: Louisa Dunne Part 2 this Friday, then the podcast heads to Ireland for the case of Trevor Deely — a well-known Irish case from the early 21st century.
