Golden Light: A Friday Morning Reset

Golden Light: A Friday Morning Reset

Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. You know, Friday mornings in August have this particular flavor—there's this push and pull between the weekend calling your name and the week's unfinished business still sitting on your shoulders. So if you're feeling a little wound up, a little scattered, or just carrying tension you didn't even realize was there, you're in exactly the right place. We're going to spend the next few minutes together doing something beautifully simple: we're going to actually relax. Let's start by getting comfortable wherever you are. You might be on your couch, your bed, maybe even sitting in your car before you head into work. There's no wrong place for this. Just find a position where your body feels supported and your spine can be relatively straight. Go ahead and let your shoulders drop away from your ears. Notice where you're holding tension. For most of us, it's right there in the shoulders and jaw. Just noticing it is the first gift you give yourself. Now let's breathe together. I want you to breathe in through your nose for a count of four, and as you do, imagine drawing in something cool and fresh—maybe ocean air, maybe the scent of pine. Hold it for just a moment. Then exhale slowly through your mouth for a count of six. That exhale is where the magic happens. You're literally releasing what you don't need. Let's do that three more times at your own pace. Breathe in calm. Breathe out tension. Here's our main practice: the body scan with a twist. Starting at the top of your head, I want you to imagine a warm, golden light—like honey, like sunlight through amber glass. This light moves slowly down your body, and everywhere it goes, muscles soften. It reaches your forehead, and you feel your brow relax. Down to your eyes, your cheeks, your jaw. Feel your teeth unclench if they're clenched. The light flows down your neck, your shoulders, melting away that weight you've been carrying. Let it move down your arms, into your hands. Your fingers are heavy and warm. Moving down your chest now, your belly expands with ease. Your spine feels supported. The light continues down your legs, your thighs, your knees, all the way to your feet. Every part of you is exactly where it should be. Take one more deep breath here, and just rest in this feeling for a moment. As you move through the rest of your day, you can return to this feeling anytime. Just close your eyes for one conscious breath, and let that golden light remind you that relaxation isn't a luxury—it's a reset button you always carry with you. Thank you so much for listening to Relaxation today. I hope you felt even a little bit lighter. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so we can do this together again soon.
