What if the gods of ancient Mesopotamia were more than figures of myth, and the earliest surviving texts preserved traces of a very different account of human origins?

In this episode, our guest brings an engineer’s perspective to decades of research into the Anunnaki, Nibiru and the ancient traditions of Sumer and Babylon. Drawing heavily on the Enuma Elish, Atrahasis and the Epic of Gilgamesh, he follows the figures of Anu, Enki, Enlil, Ninhursag and Ningishzida through stories of creation, conflict, kingship and the Great Flood. His research also traces what he believes are recurring identities across later cultures, connecting Sumerian gods with figures from Egypt, Greece and other ancient traditions.
The discussion moves from the supposed arrival of the Anunnaki from Nibiru and their search for gold to the rebellion of the Igigi and the controversial idea that humanity was genetically created as a workforce. From there, the story reaches Eridu and the Garden of Eden, the rivalry between Enki and Enlil, Atrahasis and the Flood, and the claim that Noah, Ziusudra and Utnapishtim preserve different versions of the same ancient figure.
Along the way, we encounter ancient technology, lost civilisations, Sumerian genealogies, the origins of agriculture, the gods of Egypt and Greece, and the possibility that stories later treated as religion and mythology may have developed from much older Mesopotamian traditions. It is a wide-ranging investigation into one of alternative history’s most controversial ideas: that the story of the Anunnaki may represent a forgotten chapter in the story of mankind.
