Who Was Lucifer Before the Fall? | The War Before Genesis - EP 1

Who was Lucifer before he became the adversary? In Episode 1 of The War Before Genesis, Bennett Tanton examines Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28 to reconstruct the biblical profile of the being Christians commonly call Lucifer. Before the serpent. Before Satan. Before the war in heaven. Isaiah records five extraordinary declarations: “I will ascend to heaven.” “I will raise my throne above the stars of God.” “I will sit on the mount of assembly.” “I will ascend above the heights of the clouds.” “I will make myself like the Most High.” What was he trying to accomplish? We examine the meaning of Helel ben Shachar — the Shining One, Son of the Dawn — and why “Lucifer” entered the Christian vocabulary through the Latin Vulgate. Then we turn to Ezekiel 28 and the mysterious description of a being who was in Eden, walked on the holy mountain of God, was described as perfect in beauty and full of wisdom, and served as the “anointed cherub who covers.” We also examine: • Lucifer and the Divine Council • The five “I will” declarations of Isaiah 14 • The Mount of Assembly • The biblical role of cherubim • Lucifer's presence in Eden • Pride and corrupted wisdom • The difference between Lucifer, Satan, and the Devil • The origin of the first rebellion • Why the timeline of Satan's fall is more complicated than many Christians realize • The coming War in Heaven The rebellion did not begin with a cartoon devil holding a pitchfork. Scripture presents something far more serious: a powerful created being who occupied an extraordinary position and chose autonomous rule over submission to his Creator. This is The War Before Genesis — Episode 1: Lucifer Before the Fall. Episode 2 tackles one of the hardest questions in the biblical account: When did Satan actually fall? Job places the adversary in the divine court. Jesus speaks about Satan falling from heaven. Revelation 12 describes war in heaven. How do these passages fit together?
