Trial Of Caleb Flynn Day 7: Why Was THIS Evidence Test Never Done?

The defense used Det. Sgt. Mike Morgan’s cross-examination to focus on investigative steps that were never taken after Ashley Flynn was killed.

Morgan was questioned first about portions of Caleb Flynn’s recorded interview where the defense said the video didn’t appear to match the audio. Defense counsel then moved into forensic testing and asked about blood evidence. Morgan testified there was no evidence of blood on Caleb’s clothing or in the home’s sinks.

Then came gunshot residue.

Morgan acknowledged Caleb was never tested for it. He said investigators didn’t want to rush to judgment and take him into custody at that time. At the same time, Morgan testified that if Caleb entered the room four to six seconds after hearing the shots, as Caleb described, Morgan believed gunshot residue would have been somewhere on him.

But investigators never performed a gunshot-residue test.

Defense counsel widened the questioning from forensic testing to the search itself. Morgan testified investigators did not examine FLOCK cameras around the neighborhood or Pastor Jordan’s home. They also did not search the fields behind Jordan’s house. The defense additionally raised cold-case units used by other departments.

Caleb Flynn denies killing his wife, Ashley Flynn. Prosecutors allege he staged her death to resemble a burglary. His attorneys maintain investigators rushed toward Caleb instead of fully investigating a home intruder.

That makes the investigative steps Morgan says were skipped central to the defense’s cross-examination.
