Why Caleb Flynn Waited for Ashley to Fall Asleep

Caleb Flynn told his mistress he'd wait until Ashley was asleep. That was September 2, 2025, and what he was waiting to do is the reason Alleigha Botner's reply, "be careful," followed by "Perfect," sits at the center of this True Crime Today panel. Ashley Flynn was shot in her sleep on February 16, 2026.

Robin Dreeke, who ran the FBI's Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program, and Jennifer Coffindaffer, 25 years an FBI special agent, take all nine clips from Botner's testimony in the Caleb Flynn trial. His messages: June 12's "hire someone" and "I've never joked about it"; July 4's "please take her out" and "not even for a second" about the in-laws; August 22's 4 a.m. "ways to kill her and not go to jail." Her messages: the July 10 text she says she didn't mean, the September 2 phone plan, and "I'm not asking that you take her life, obviously," then "time is ticking." The cross: her Google searches after the murder, her "I don't think he could ever be capable," and the list of everything police never did with her.

Prosecutors say Caleb shot his wife twice in the head and staged an intruder. He has pleaded not guilty. His lawyers say the state has an affair, not a murder.
