Autism Is Not A Disability?

Autism Is Not A Disability?

Is autism a disability? It’s a question that can bring up strong feelings, especially when you’re an autistic adult trying to explain both your strengths and the support you need.

In this episode, we unpack the title and explore why people describe autism in different ways. Some autistic people identify as disabled. Others feel that the barriers around them cause many of their difficulties. Both experiences deserve to be heard. We also talk about why recognising autistic strengths should never mean dismissing sensory overload, communication differences, burnout, or the need for support.

Whether you’ve recently received an adult autism diagnosis, still use the term Asperger’s syndrome, or want to understand autism and disability better, join the conversation and decide what language feels right for you.
