The True Story Behind Netflix's 'The Widower: Til Death Do Us Part'

The episode details the complex and protracted criminal history of Thomas Randolph, a man married six times who became the subject of extensive documentary coverage for his suspected involvement in multiple spousal deaths. Despite decades of suspicion, insurance payouts, and an acquittal in Utah for his second wife's murder, Randolph was ultimately convicted in Nevada for the 2008 execution-style killings of his sixth wife, Sharon Causse, and a handyman named Michael Miller. Following a legal battle that included a vacated death sentence and a subsequent 2023 retrial, Randolph received a sixty-years-to-life sentence that was upheld by the Nevada Supreme Court in late 2026. The narrative closely examines the intersection of true crime journalism and law enforcement, highlighting how a meticulous investigation by detective Dean O'Kelley and documentary producer Dan Slepian dismantled Randolph's manipulative public persona. Ultimately, the source material explores the stark contrast between a suspicious, pattern-filled life and the strict evidentiary requirements needed to secure a legally binding murder conviction.
