The Letter Ken Urker Wrote Gypsy Rose After Her HBO Documentary

Ken Urker watched an HBO documentary about Gypsy Rose Blanchard in 2017 and made a decision that would define the next nine years of his life. He wrote her a letter at Chillicothe Correctional Center, where she was serving time for her part in killing her mother.

The letters became visits. The visits became a proposal in October 2018. She said yes from the other side of a visiting room. He’d never known her outside of one.

He ended the engagement ten months later. His own words, years after: outside opinion and influence. He’d been listening to a podcast, hearing people say the kindest thing was to let her build her own identity. He handed his relationship to strangers and walked away. His mother says it devastated him.

For three years, he could have stayed gone. Gypsy married Ryan Anderson in the prison in 2022. She walked out December 28, 2023, three years early. Lifetime’s cameras met her at the door. Three months after release, she announced the separation. Days later, she and Ken were getting matching tattoos.

He moved from Dallas to Louisiana. Because of her parole, they couldn’t live together. He’d left his family for a place where he knew one person — the woman on the reality show.

Aurora Raina Urker was born December 28, 2024. Her middle name is Ken’s mother’s name. By the spring of 2026, Ken was drinking hard and had been to at least one AA meeting. By late summer, he was alone in Raceland.

Deputies found him on October 1, 2026. He was 34.

Before the coroner had looked at him, Gypsy called People and TMZ. His sister went live on TikTok. Both told their story. Ken can’t tell his.

Nine years, one letter to the last phone call.
