Mega Edition: What Did we Learn From The Various Forensic Reports (10/9/26)

The autopsy reports for Madison Mogen, Kaylee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle and Ethan Chapin revealed just how violent and sustained the attacks inside 1122 King Road were. All four deaths were ruled homicides caused by multiple sharp-force injuries, and the wounds were consistent with a large fixed-blade knife such as a Ka-Bar. The reports showed significant differences in the number and location of the injuries, with Xana suffering the most extensive wounds, followed by Kaylee, Madison and Ethan. Kaylee also had major blunt-force trauma, including a broken nose and a knocked-out tooth, while Xana had numerous injuries to her arms and hands that were consistent with defensive wounds. Madison suffered fatal injuries to major blood vessels, her lung and liver, and Ethan sustained a devastating neck wound that damaged major vessels. The medical examiner concluded that all four experienced significant pain and suffering before death, with the pattern of injuries helping investigators better understand the order and nature of the attacks.

The toxicology reports added context about the victims’ condition before the murders but did not change the cause of death. All four had alcohol in their systems, with Madison recording the highest blood-alcohol concentration, followed by Xana, Ethan and Kaylee. Ethan and Xana also tested positive for amphetamines, though the reports did not identify those substances as contributing to their deaths. Taken together, the autopsy and toxicology findings gave investigators a clearer picture of the victims’ physical condition, the severity of the attack and the force used against them, while also undercutting early speculation that some other medical or toxicological factor may have played a role. The records instead reinforced that the four students died from a concentrated, exceptionally brutal knife attack carried out over a very short period of time.
