ABOUT THE SOUTHERN BLACK GIRLS AND WOMEN’S CONSORTIUM:

Who They Are

The Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium (Southern Black Girls) is a collective of Black women in philanthropy, activism and girls’ work, who hold deep roots in movement-building. Established in 2017, Southern Black Girls has become a disruptor in grant-making and is positioned as a catalyst to fundraise and provide greater resources toward underfunded organizations that, intentionally, support and empower Black girls and women in the South. Southern Black Girls recognizes their critical role and the importance of centering the lived experiences and leadership of those most impacted by deep-seated injustices. The organization is led by four anchor institutions including the Appalachian Community Fund, the BlackBelt Community Foundation, the Fund for Southern Communities and the TruthSpeaks Innovation Foundation. The collective also includes a host of grassroots and advocacy partners, who are actively engaging in this work across the region.

The visionary founder of Southern Black Girls is LaTosha Brown, who is also the co-founder of Black Voters Matter.

The executive director of Southern Black Girls is Malikah Berry Rogers, who is the voice that will be speaking on behalf of the organization during today’s interview.

Why They Are

Fed up with reports confirming that Black women and girls receive less than one percent of the $4.8 billion in philanthropic investments in the south, Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium made it their mission to raise $100 million over the next decade to financially empower the goals of Black girls and women. To date, they have already awarded $3.7 million to 221 Black women-led organizations and 504 girls across 13 southern states - Alabama, Arkansas, East Texas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Wednesday March 20 2019..Author and Historian Bobby Beverly is making claims that Jesse Jackson may have known about the set up of Dr. Kings Assasination on the Loraine hotel balcony in 1968

The views and opinions expressed in this episode are that of the Author Bobby Beverly and not necessarily the opinions of the 20 minute morning show staff : On today’s episode of the 20 Minute Morning Show author and historian Bobby Beverly is making claims that Jesse Jackson had something to do with the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. He gives names and circumstances under which Dr. King jr was set up to be murdered on the balcony of the Lorraine hotel in 1968. Mr. Beverly claims that the way Doctor King died and has been told to the American public is false. Was Dr. King still alive when he was shot on the balcony of the Lorraine hotel and did they kill him at the hospital? Hear for yourself..

Wednesday March 6 As we attended my Aunts Funeral on Monday, my first cousins and I discussed all of us getting together outside of funerals. It seems thats the only time family gets together anymore

My dear 85 year old Aunt Carol Jean passed away last week in Elizabethtown NC a small town outside of Wilmington NC in the sandhills of bladen county. My mother was raised there, all 11 of her brothers and sisters. They were a farming family and most of them went they got a chance to move up north, they ran to the state of New Jersey and never looked back. My Aunt Carol left, but she cam back home and settled there until her recent passing. We use to have some good times in the summer when we were children. Tobacco fields, good cooking from Grandma and hanging with all my cousin's for a week. In this episode my first cousins and I discuss us coming together outside of funerals and getting closer again. We had a great brief discussion before we had to get in our cars and proceed to the church, but I did capture a great moment between us. funeralfamilyLoveunitedreunion
