Episode 09 Who is my Neighbour?

Episode 09 Who is my Neighbour?

Welcome, dear listeners, to another episode of our podcast, where we explore stories that touch the depths of our faith and inspire us to be better. I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we delve into the timeless parable of the Good Samaritan. The Parable of the Good Samaritan. Our story today begins with a question posed to Jesus, "Who is my neighbour?" In response, Jesus shared the powerful parable of the Good Samaritan, found in the New Testament in Luke 10:25-37. In this parable, a man is beaten, robbed, and left for dead on the side of the road. Passersby, including a priest and a Levite, ignore him. It's a Samaritan, a person from a despised group, who shows compassion, tends to the wounded man's injuries, and ensures his safety. This story teaches us about the boundless nature of compassion and the call to love our neighbour as ourselves. Lessons from the Compassionate Samaritan The parable of the Good Samaritan imparts several profound lessons: 1. Compassion Knows No Boundaries: True compassion transcends social, racial, and cultural barriers. It reminds us that kindness should extend to all, regardless of our differences. 2. Taking Action: The Samaritan didn't just feel sorry for the injured man; he took action. This teaches us the importance of not just empathising but also helping those in need. 3. Breaking Stereotypes: The story challenges stereotypes and biases. It reminds us that goodness can be found in unexpected places. I remember a group of healthcare workers who, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, went above and beyond to care for patients, often risking their own health. Their dedication and compassion in the face of adversity exemplified the spirit of the Good Samaritan. The parable of the Good Samaritan continues to inspire acts of kindness and compassion in our modern world. Countless individuals and organisations are following in the footsteps of the Samaritan, making a positive impact on their communities. The parable of the Good Samaritan challenges us to reflect on our own lives and ask, "Am I being a Good Samaritan in my daily interactions?" As we conclude this episode on the Good Samaritan, may you carry with you the timeless wisdom of this parable—that compassion knows no boundaries and that we are all called to be good neighbours to one another. Thank you for joining us on this journey through a story that continues to inspire acts of kindness and compassion. May the parable of the Good Samaritan guide our actions, reminding us that the world can be a better place when we choose to be Good Samaritans in our own lives. Until we meet again to explore more stories that touch our hearts and inspire us to make a difference, may your days be filled with the spirit of the Good Samaritan, ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Hi everyone, Welcome back to ‘2 Minutes with the Lord.’ I am Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD. Today, we’re diving into the eleventh episode of our podcast, and this episode is so powerful. Let me ask you a question. What about the lengths we’re willing to go to for healing for ourselves and the people we love?  This is the story of Jesus healing the paralytic man, found in Mark 2:1-12. But this isn’t just about one man’s healing—faith that breaks barriers, friendships that persevere, and what happens when we refuse to let anything stand between us and God.”

Episode 10 The Miraculous Catch of Fish

"Welcome to '2 Minutes with the Lord.' I'm your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we're setting sail into one of the most unexpected miracles in the Gospels—The Miraculous Catch of Fish. But this isn't just a fish story. Let's dive in and find out."   "In the Gospel of Luke 5:1-11, Peter and his fellow fishermen are exhausted. They've been out all night, casting their nets repeatedly, and they've caught nothing. Not a single fish. The sun is starting to rise, and with that sinking feeling of defeat comes. They're pulling the nets back in, tired and discouraged. The night is over, and it's time to head back to shore—empty."   "As they're cleaning their nets, Jesus appears. He steps into Peter's boat and asks him to push it out a little from shore so that He can teach the gathered crowd. Peter, still tired, agrees. He pushes out into the water and listens to Jesus speak, probably wondering how much longer this will take before he can go home and rest."

Welcome back to ‘2 Minutes with the Lord.’ I’m your host, Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we’re witnessing one of the most powerful and emotionally charged stories in the Gospels—Jesus’ healing of the woman with the issue of blood, found in Mark 5:25-34. But this isn’t just a story about healing. It’s a story about what happens when someone living in the shadows of life decides to step out into the light and reclaim her dignity, identity, and worth.” “Let’s set the scene: A large crowd surrounds Jesus. People from all over have come to see, hear, and touch Him. Amid this bustling crowd, there’s a woman. For twelve long years, she has been suffering from a condition that not only made her physically weak but also socially outcast. In the eyes of the community, she was unclean and untouchable. She had spent everything she had on doctors who couldn’t heal her. She had tried everything. And now, she was invisible to the world but desperate for something different.

Welcome back to '2 Minutes with the Lord.' I'm your host, Fr. Veigas Dominic SVD, and today, we're stepping into the world of one of Jesus' most profound miracles—the healing of the ten lepers. But we won't look at this as just another story about healing. This story is about what it means to be restored—not just physically, but in terms of belonging, identity, and community. It's a story about how we treat those on the margins and how radical inclusion can bring true transformation."   Imagine you're walking through a city, and as you pass by an alleyway, you notice a group of people huddled together. They're homeless. Forgotten by society, living on the fringes, unseen by the thousands of people passing them by daily. Some are struggling with addiction, some with mental illness. Each of them has their own story, but they all share one thing in common: isolation. In this busy, bustling world, they've become invisible."

Episode 06 Walking on the Water

“Welcome back to ‘2 Minutes with the Lord.’ I’m Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we’re diving into something deeper than a story—something that touches the essence of faith, fear, and the unknown. The story of Jesus walking on water is familiar, but what if this isn’t just about physical waters, waves, and boats? What if it’s about stepping into an unknown dimension of faith, where reality bends, and we’re forced to confront the limits of what we think is possible?”

Episode 04 Feeding the Five Thousand

“Welcome back to ‘2 Minutes with the Lord.’ I’m Fr. Dominic Veigas SVD, and today, we’re diving into one of the most iconic miracles of Jesus—feeding the five thousand. But instead of retelling it exactly as it happened 2,000 years ago, let’s place it into today’s context, a scenario many of us can relate to: the startup world. Like the boy with five loaves and two fish, modern entrepreneurs often feel they don’t have enough resources to succeed. Yet, this story teaches us that with Jesus, even the little we have can become more than enough.”
