The Emergence & Loss of Trans Spaces in New York City

The first episode of the /Queer podcast addresses the development, shifting and receding of transgender and gender variant spaces in and around New York City over the past 3-4 decades. The episode includes an interview with Carrie Davis, a nonprofit health and human rights consultant and one of NYC's Human Rights Commissioners, discussing the impact of capitalisation and gentrification on both physical and virtual trans spaces, as well as the value of trans spaces for the transgender and wider gender variant community.

This episode of /Queer was edited with the help of Charles Makemson, scripted and presented by Georgie Williams and recorded on location in Brooklyn, New York. A very special thanks to Carrie Davis for her contribution to this episode and also to the performers and congregation at St John’s Lutheran Church. Music in this episode was composed by Kevin MacLeod.
