Right when you thought the ghosts of Lob City were behind them, the Clippers put up a true stinker against a garbage team. The Lakers can hold their heads up high as they played with a ton of urgency, while the Clippers sleepwalked through a terrible loss that could cost them serious ground in the playoff chase to close the season. While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continued to ball out, Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams both looked listless, though we know at least the former was a bit sick. Danilo Gallinari and Garrett Temple also showed up, but the rest of the team did not. This after a lifeless showing against the Rockets. How worried should we be about the Clippers? The Clippers have been practically therapeutic to Clipper fans this season. Finally devoid of expectations, the team has broken every projection and are trying to somehow accomplish another 50 win season, which would be the first without Chris Paul. You know we're going to gush about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who's put it all together this month, and is putting up some gaudy shooting splits as well as picking up his downhill play. He's not the only one, as the team went a league best (!) 14-2 in the month of March, including arguably the best play of Danilo Gallinari's career. The team also absorbed some injury scares to Patrick Beverley, Montrezl Harrell, and Landry Shamet while coming out on the other side. Now all that's left is staying healthy and seeing who shows up as our first playoff opponent. And, of course, your Twitter questions. We can't believe the Clippers are in 5th place right now, but maybe anything is possible in one of the more enjoyable seasons in Clippers franchise history. The team has played some weak teams recently, but they've fattened up their record on them, running just as hot as they did earlier in the season. The team has played well, but the bench has dragged with Wilson Chandler, who is mostly washed. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander continues his improved play and Danilo Gallinari might be in the best stretch of his career season. Landry Shamet is injured, but it feels like a pretty variable injury, and it's encouraging that he's already questionable for the Wolves game. Who will start in his stead, and will Doc shorten the rotation as a result? The Clippers continue to build momentum despite a schedule loss against the Blazers earlier in the week. They had an excellent blowout win against the Celtics and, in an otherwise pretty mediocre game, had a third quarter for the ages against the hapless Bulls. The team is fairly healthy, and ready to try and get as high of a seed as they can. The magic number for the playoffs is 8, and while we have a hard time ignoring it, it is not a bad idea to look at the schedules of the teams around you. And, what about Shai? The Clippers are playing quite well. The team has lived most of the season as an underdog story, and has had to hear basketball "experts" undercut their accomplishments all year.
