Nobody 2, How To Start A Physical Media Collection in 2025, and More

On the August 20, 2025 episode of /Film Weekly, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by several people to talk about the latest film and TV news.

(~00:33) In The News:

(~14:01) Nobody 2 spoiler-free conversation

Nobody 2 Review: Bob Odenkirk Is Invincible In A Violent, Fun Sequel That Wastes No Time

(~23:10) Listener emails:

Lorenzo wrote in responding to our conversation about James Gunn’s Superman. “Lex’s employee with the mustache is a character named Sydney Happersen. He was introduced during John Byrne’s post-Crisis Superman run, and he worked with Lex there in the comics too. Coincidentally, he was introduced in the same comic book issue as Amanda McCoy, who is another associate of Lex’s who also recently made her live-action debut (during the final season of Superman & Lois).

James Gunn has lamented having locked himself into using Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after setting him up in a credits scene in Vol. 2 and is therefore trying to move away from using credits scenes to set the stage for future projects. This, I think, explains why he opted to introduce Supergirl prior to the credits rolling on Superman. As for the way in which Supergirl is depicted in her cameo, her upcoming film is based on Tom King’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow series, which begins with Supergirl getting drunk on a planet with a red sun as alluded to in her cameo. With regards to Lobo’s role in the Supergirl movie, I don’t think we can really say with much certainty that Kara and Lobo will be “teaming up”. Lobo was not in the Woman of Tomorrow comics. While King initially planned to use Lobo in that run, Lobo didn’t wind up making it in when all was said and done. However, based on those comics I think it’s pretty easy to surmise how Lobo might be incorporated into the film adaptation, and it’s not as an ally to Kara. I think that Lobo will sort of be competing with Supergirl to get to Krem (the big bad of the comic and the movie) first to collect a bounty on him. Lobo is an antihero, so perhaps by the end of the film he will wind up on Supergirl’s side, but I think he will mostly be an antagonist in the movie.

I was shocked to hear you guys weren’t fond of the song choice during the Mr. Terrific fight scene. I think that song is lovely. It feels like it could’ve come right off the 50 First Dates soundtrack.

(~26:06) Wes from Dallas Fort-Worth wrote in and said:

Just wanted to get some help with selecting physical media. I would like to get back into buying Blu-rays but this time, I plan to be very selective and get only the best quality versions.

When shopping for them, I see that it has become a mess as there’s just basic movies on Blu-ray, there’s special feature Blu-rays, and then there’s those like the upcoming Tombstone re-release that is probably the best quality you’ll be able to find it in.

So my questions are:

1. What do I look for on the box to know that this is actually the very best version of a film and that I’m not just buying a standard copy that was out on Blu-ray.

2. Could you do a ranking of the best Blu-rays that have the definitive versions of a movie?

3. With bandwidth speeds increasing, do you think streaming from Netflix or iTunes will get to the same quality as these Blu-ray’s?

4. Off topic - any chance we’ll ever get to see the 120 fps version of Gemini Man somewhere, especially since many TVs now support this?
