1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. A derby day that had the lot; a Forest win, drama, memorable goals and even a bust-up at the end! This Saturday lunchtime clash saw Forest secure a 2-1 victory over Derby and extend their unbeaten run against their rivals to 10 matches. Forest lined up without the injured Joe Worrall, so Ryan Yates moved into the back three alongside Steve Cook and Scott McKenna, whilst ex-Derby man Max Lowe made his return from the sidelines at left wing-back. However, an uninsipiring start saw Steve Cooper switch to a 4-3-2-1 formation in the first half, but aside from a huge miss by Derby's Tom Lawrence, the opening 45 didn't offer much. The second half got off to a flyer, as Lewis Grabban netted his third goal in as many games and 13th of the season, pouncing after Cook's attempted shot was blocked into his path. With eight minutes remaining, Brennan Johnson started and finished a fine move, exchanging passes with Philip Zinckernagel before firing into the bottom corner of the net for 2-0. Derby pulled a goal back from the penalty spot through Lawrence, at which point the midfielder was barged out of the way by Brice Samba (sporting a headband after a previous accidental clash with the Derby no. 10), sparking a heated clash inside the goal. The visitors, in the midst of their well-publicised off-field issues, couldn't find an equaliser. Ravel Morrison was given a straight red for a reckless challenge on Zinckernagel, while at the final whistle another melee broke out as the Forest players and fans enjoyed their victory, with the Reds retaining the Brian Clough Trophy. We also discuss how the Reds are able to keep going for 90+ minutes. Transfers: Forest struck early in the window, making two solid-looking signings in Keinan Davis and Steve Cook, with full-back Richmond Laryea following shortly afterwards and Djed Spence seemingly extending his stay at the City Ground. This time it was a 91st minute winner from Lewis Grabban that secured a dramatic victory for Steve Cooper's side at The New Den, after a see-saw second half which saw chances galore for Forest, as well as several opportunities for the hosts, who were twice denied brilliantly by Brice Samba in the Forest net. Grabban replaced Philip Zinckernagel in the starting XI, playing just behind Keinan Davis, but it was Forest who struggled to get much going in the first half, only coming into proceedings just before the break. The Reds were much-improved in the second, with some fluent passing from Ryan Yates and James Garner, the guile of Grabban and Davis and the lively Brennan Johnson causing Millwall all kinds of problems. The game saw plenty of chances come and go for both sides, with Forest in particular forcing good saves out of Bartosz Bialkowski in the Lions goal and seeing efforts cleared off the line, before Grabban stepped up with minutes remaining to send the travelling Forest fans wild. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest's staying power once again came to the fore. They talk about the importance of Lewis Grabban to the side, how the Reds approached the game in the right manner as well as the belief and determination that the team continues to show under Cooper. Forest knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup in the third round again with a memorable victory on Trentside. On a night where the Reds delivered a superb team performance, Lewis Grabban netted the deciding goal on 83 minutes when he steered home a terrific cross from the right by Ryan Yates, giving Steve Cooper's Forest a victory that left The City Ground crowd delighted. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest were committed, resolute but also threatening when they had the ball. They talk about the promising debuts of new signings Steve Cook and Keinan Davis, how Cooper set Forest up to go on and win the game, as well as the continued brilliance of Djed Spence, who impressed fans up and down the country with his display. It's a bit of a shock to the system to lose two matches in a row after the run that Forest have been on since Chris Hughton left, but a Covid-disrupted Reds team will feel that they should have got at least a point, and probably three, out of this one - they certainly had enough chances. Baz is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Huddersfield only had three real shots on target, but scored the only goal; whereas Forest just couldn't put the ball in the net. Another victory for Forest, but a hard-fought one where the Reds had to come from behind and overcome losing two players to injury. It was a murky day by the Trent, and with the spectre of Covid causing disruption to football and our Christmas plans, this was a day when things could have gone awry, especially after Kean Lewis-Potter opened the scoring just before the break. However, second half goals from Lewis Grabban (pen) and Brennan Johnson saw the home team claim victory and the fans leave with smiles on their faces.
