The hosts had taken a first half lead and although the Reds had a good number of efforts on goal, Ryan Yates' first half header was ruled out for an offside. Even when Surridge did equalise, VAR had to check for offside, but the former Bournemouth man's goal stood. This felt like a symbolic result after Forest got battered at the King Power Stadium a few months ago, as a measure of how far the Reds have come. Two goals from Brennan Johnson decided the match, the first after VAR intervened on an offside call, and the second from a frankly sexy counter-attack. In the end, Forest were disappointed not to get the win which would have elevated them out of the drop zone. First half efforts in quick succession from Marcus Rashford and Antony Martial effectively killed the game, although things could have been different if one of Ryan Yates' efforts had crept in; the first was saved, and the second snuck in off the leg of Willy Boly, who was in an offside position.
