Luton Town 1-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
The referee and his team took centre stage at Kenilworth Road, as a controversial penalty and some baffling decisions left Steve Cooper furious. Forest had decent chances but Grabban and Zinckernagel will both feel that they should have done better, while Djed Spence's goal was wrongly ruled out for offside (yes, the rules are odd, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be enforced). Luton suffered themselves, as Sonny Bradley received a second yellow card when Sam Surridge should have been called offside. Rich Ferraro is joined by Luton supporter Ryan McCole to get a view from the opposition, and Tom Newton also joins the discussion, fresh from the away end at Kenilworth Road. Nottingham Forest 2-0 Birmingham City: The 1865 Match Report
Steve Cooper's Mighty Reds ascended to third in the league, albeit in a match overshadowed by a serious-looking injury to visiting keeper Neil Etheridge. Forest took an early lead with Keinan Davis' blasted finish, although that only told part of the story as the build up evoked memories of the Chuckle Brothers and the Isley Brothers. After Etheridge was stretchered off midway through the second period, the mighty Scott McKenna sealed the points with a header from Jimmy Garner's corner. Rich Ferraro and Baz review the match, with a view from the away end from Tom of the Blues Focus Podcast. Rich and Baz then dare to dream - with five consecutive victories, favourable results elsewhere, and second-placed Bournemouth having a tricky run-in, can the Reds really challenge for automatic promotion? Nottingham Forest 2-0 Coventry City: The 1865 Match Report
Another hard-fought victory from the Reds, perhaps lacking in style and panache but making up for that with grit and determination, against a decent Coventry team and a baffling referee. After the match, Steve Cooper claimed that he wasn't aware that this win put Forest in the play-off places! However, he did comment on the need to keep up the momentum, not only in results but also playing style and game plan. Steven Toplis and Baz review the match, with a view from the away end from Glenn of Sky Blue Fans TV. Blackpool 1-4 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
A real statement victory from the Reds, as they were ruthless in the first half against a Blackpool team who will have had their own play-off ambitions. An early deflected effort by Philip Zinckernagel was added to by two brilliantly taken goals from man-of-the-moment Brennan Johnson. We also have kind words to say about the whole team, but there is a special mention for Scott McKenna, who is still supposed to be injured! Rich Ferraro is joined by Adam, who had just returned from his day out at the seaside, as we discuss all the action, the post-match reactions from the two managers, and we are pleased to offer praise to the referee! "Five Year Plan": The 1865 Nottingham Forest Podcast, March 2022
As we get to the business end of the season, Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis, Tom Newton and Baz to reflect on Forest's current prospects. In the wake of good league form and after an unfortunate cup exit, do Steve Cooper's squad have enough physical and mental resources to gain a top six finish (or better)? Also this month, we talk about the wonderful atmosphere at the City Ground, with guest contributor Stuart Levy, and talk about a few off-the-pitch issues, such as the Fans' Q&A sessions and a new appointment to the club's board of directors. All this, and we have a game of Guess That Red, Jeremy Davies' 1865 Sketch, and another competition courtesy of our sponsors The Terrace: listen to the podcast and email your answer to forestramble@gmail.com by 6pm on Friday 1st April. Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool: The 1865 Match Report
Gutted but proud, Steve Cooper's Reds gave Liverpool a run for their money and could have snatched a result. In the tightest quarter-final of the weekend, Forest had enough chances to win this but were thwarted by a well-taken goal by Diogo Jota, just after Philip Zinckernagel should have put the Reds in the lead. Jota probably was onside, and the challenge by Allison on Ryan Yates probably wasn't a penalty, but it didn't stop the accusations about LiVARpool; as Cooper said, it would have been interesting to see what decisions would have been made at the other end of the pitch. Rich Ferraro is joined by the Maradona of the Midlands and Liverpool fan Johnny Shah to review the match itself, with special mentions for Yates and man of the match Joe Worrall; we also comment on the cost and value of Liverpool's team, especially after the quadruple substitution, and there are a few words about Jurgen Klopp. We also ask Tom Newton and Baz to join us to reflect on the match - could we really have won it, and what does this say about whether Forest could hold their own if they got promoted? Nottingham Forest 3-1 Queens Park Rangers: The 1865 Match Report
A blistering comeback from Forest was kickstarted by a thunderbastard from Djed Spence, as Forest eventually stteamrollered a stubborn and niggly QPR side. In a match that was another great advert for the Championship, despite a torrential downpour and a soggy pitch, Forest showed their ability throughout, but it was the visitors who took the lead against the run of play when Andre Gray ran between the lines, converting Ilias Chair's excellent throughball from a tight angle. For all that Forest were trying to overcome the shirt pulling and constant niggles, it needed something special to get the Reds back in the match, as Djedmond Spence conjured up a swerving shot into the top corner. After that, it still could have swung either way, but the forces of footballing good prevailed as Ryan Yates' deflected effort from a corner hit home, and then Brennan Johnson sealed the victory after sub Cafu's effort was well-saved following a counter-attack by subs Joe Lolley and Sam Surridge.
