Teacher Shortage. According to research by the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), the teacher shortage could reach 200,000 by 2025, up from 110,000 in 2018. According to the Economic Policy Institute by the year 2025, the teacher shortage could reach 200,000. Our area of expertise is classroom management. New teachers often struggle in this area and with an increased number of students in the classroom, there is a greater risk of classroom disruptions to occur. Current statistics show that new teachers leave at rates of somewhere between 19% and 30% over their first five years of teaching. A recent study by the Learning Policy Institute shows that if a teacher receives mentoring, collaboration, and extra resources, and is part of a strong teacher network, first-year turnover is cut by more than half. Unfortunately, just 3% of beginning teachers receive such support. I don’t know what it’s like to be on drugs or addicted to crack or be a regular marijuana smoker. I never popped pills or any of that but I do have empathy for my people when I see them in that condition. The other day talked with a brother that I see frequently on Beatties Ford Road and LaSalle, and we had a conversation about his crack addiction and how he was struggling with it.
