She was soon a busy wife, mother of a son and daughter, and a businesswoman who owned a successful digital imaging company for over 40 years. Her life turned upside down in 2004 when her 17 year old daughter, Robin, was diagnosed with Stage 3 ovarian cancer. Robin vigorously fought the battle but lost her dynamic life just 2 ½ years after her diagnosis. She died at the young age of 20! To honor Robin’s memory and shine a light on her legacy, Paulinda founded the non profit, The Ovarian Cancer Circle/Inspired By Robin Babbini. It is her passionate, tireless commitment to heighten awareness of the signs and symptoms of this ‘stealth’ cancer, particularly amongst young women. She devotes her days working at community outreach throughout Southern California, attending health fairs, seminars and women’s conferences, as well as lobbying in Washington, DC. Fundraising is the key to research and clinical trials that will lead to ovarian cancer being conquered. THE CIRCLE has dedicated its support to the prestigious UCLA based G.O. Discovery Lab, led by gynecologic oncologist, Dr. Sanaz Memarzadeh. Prior to COVID, The CIRCLE hosted two annual fundraising events , “Take A Bite Out of Ovarian Cancer”, at Ruth’s Chris Steak House and “Teal There’s A Cure.”. This past year they had two virtual walk runs and one in person event, Drag Queen Bingo. To date they have raised $950,000!!! THE CIRCLE has achieved increasing public civic recognition. Paulinda has been honored with a “Women in Leadership Award” by the City of West Hollywood; KNX Radio “Hero of the Week”; and a “Certificate of Appreciation & Recognition” by the City of Los Angeles. Moreover, for the last four years, The CIRCLE attained a ‘first-ever’ milestone: the City of Los Angeles proclaimed September as Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. And in recognition City Hall of Los Angeles, City Hall of West Hollywood and the LAX pylons are illuminated in teal, the national color of ovarian cancer.
