Avatar: The Way of Water Early Buzz & The Future of Indiana Jones

On the December 7, 2022 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editorial director Peter Sciretta is joined by no one to answer some Indiana Jones emails in the Mailbag and discuss the latest film and TV news, which all circles around Avatar: The Way of Water. Opening Banter: We are transferring our podcast over to a new host so if there is any wonkiness, we apologize in advance! In The Mailbag: Gert from The Netherlands writes in “When it comes to the future of the Indiana Jones franchise, deep faking Harrison Ford for a feature length movie could be done - but shouldn’t be done. That being said I doubt Ford would ‘sell’ his likeness to be used for all of eternity ;) I always thought a series following a young group of archeological students (taught by Jones) on many adventures - could work. Throw in a few ‘legacy’ characters like Mutt or Short Round to tie everything together. The show would simply be called: RAIDERS. It borrows from the original title of the first film and should be recognizable enough using the right font.” Robert V writes in “On Friday’s podcast you mentioned that you think that Indiana Jones might die in the new movie. Rest assured he will not die. On the show ‘The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles’ there was a scene that featured an Indiana Jones in his 90s. Unless Disney had decided that the show isn’t canon anymore, it should still be true.” In The News: Avatar: The Way Of Water Early Buzz: James Cameron Does It Again In Visually Stunning And Emotional Return To PandoraAre you surprised? When are you seeing it? How are you seeing it? What Made James Cameron Want To Return For An Avatar SequelIs wanting to have fun with a group of people enough reason? James Cameron Wrote Avatar 1.5 To Help Sam Worthington And Zoe Saldańa Prepare For The Way Of WaterWill we ever get Avatar 1.5? On the March 25, 2024 episode of /Film Daily, /Film editor Ben Pearson is joined by /Film staff writer and box office analyst Ryan Scott to talk about the latest box office numbers from the weekend and dive into the mailbag. In The News: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Mirrors Afterlife With $45 Million Opening WeekendGhostbusters: Frozen Empire Proves The Franchise Has Limited Box Office PotentialHow might Ghostbusters fare with Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire coming up?Dune: Part TwoImmaculate And Late Night With The Devil Both Set Indie Horror Records At The Box OfficeE-mail: Phil from Germany wrote in a couple of weeks ago, and mentioned something in his email that I wanted to highlight here. He says: “The podcast keeps mentioning physical media and its recent bigger relevance than expected. Keep in mind that both DVDs and Blu-rays decay over time. Many of my untouched or barely touched DVDs from 20 years ago do not play completely anymore. My “Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” (still sealed) and “Veronica Mars” (played once before) collections only played half the episodes when I revisited these TV shows last year, and those were not the only ones. Blu-rays decay slower than DVDs, so going for those and creating backups seems to be the best way to keep the favorites available. All the other stuff you need to know:You can find more about all the stories we mentioned on today’s show at slashfilm.com, and linked inside the show notes./Film Daily is published every weekday, bringing you the most exciting news from the world of movies and TV as well as deeper dives into the great features from slashfilm.com. You can subscribe to /Film Daily on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify, and wherever you get your podcasts.Send your feedback, questions, comments, concerns, and mailbag topics to us at bpearson@slashfilm.com.
