The 4-Count Breath That Rewires Your Nervous System in Minutes

The 4-Count Breath That Rewires Your Nervous System in Minutes

Hey there, and welcome. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. Whether you're starting your Sunday morning or catching a moment between the chaos of the weekend, I see you. Life's been moving at that relentless speed lately, hasn't it? So let's just pause together for the next few minutes and give your nervous system what it's been asking for: a real break. Go ahead and find a comfortable seat, somewhere you won't be disturbed. You don't need perfect posture or a yoga mat or anything fancy. Just a place where you can be yourself for a bit. If you're sitting, let your shoulders drop away from your ears. If you're lying down, that's beautiful too. We're going to do this together. Now, bring your attention to your breath. Not to change it or fix it, just notice it. Notice where you feel it most easily. Maybe it's the cool air at your nostrils, or the gentle rise and fall of your chest, or even the way your belly expands like a balloon filling with air. Your breath is always here, your faithful companion, even when everything else feels like it's spinning. Here's what I want you to do. Breathe in slowly through your nose for a count of four. Feel that air traveling down like a gentle stream. Hold it for a moment. Now exhale through your mouth, and really feel it this time. Let it out like you're fogging a mirror with warm breath. Again, in through the nose, four counts. Hold it. Out through the mouth. That's it. This is called the Stress Relief Reset, and here's why it works. When we exhale longer than we inhale, we're literally sending a signal to our nervous system that we're safe. We're telling our body, "Hey, we're not running from a tiger anymore." Your nervous system listens. It actually listens. Let's do five more rounds together. In for four. Hold. Out for six or seven if you can. In for four. Hold. Out for six. Notice any shift. Even a tiny one. Maybe your jaw loosened, or your hands feel a little warmer. That's the practice working. Here's what I want you to take with you today. You have this Reset in your back pocket now. Stuck in traffic? Three rounds. Before a big meeting? Three rounds. Fighting with someone you love? Step away and do three rounds. You're not ignoring the problem; you're just giving yourself the clarity to handle it from a calmer place. Thank you so much for spending these minutes with me. Really, it means everything. If this resonated with you, please subscribe so we can do this together again. You deserve moments like this, and I'm honored to guide you through them. Take a breath. You've got this.
