Melt Into Calm: Your 5-Minute Stress Release Scan

Melt Into Calm: Your 5-Minute Stress Release Scan

Hey there, I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here with me today. Whether you're squeezing this practice in between meetings, or you've carved out a quiet moment for yourself, I want you to know that showing up right now, in the middle of a busy Wednesday morning, is exactly what your nervous system needs. So take a breath. You're in the right place. Let's start by getting comfortable. If you're sitting, feel your feet on the floor. If you're lying down, feel your whole body supported. You might be carrying some tension right now—maybe in your shoulders, maybe in your jaw—and that's completely normal. We're going to work with that today. Begin by taking a slow breath in through your nose for a count of four. Hold it gently for a beat. Then exhale through your mouth, longer and slower, for a count of six. Let's do that again. In for four. Hold. Out for six. One more time. In for four. Out for six. Already, your nervous system is getting the message that you're safe. Now, I want you to try something I call the Stress Release Scan. It's simple, and it works because it gives your mind something specific to do instead of spinning in worry. Starting at the very top of your head, imagine a warm, golden light. This light is like sunshine on your skin—comforting and gentle. As you breathe out, let this light travel down through your body, moving slowly past your forehead, your eyes, your cheeks. With each exhale, you're melting away the day's holding patterns. Move that light down through your neck and shoulders. This is where stress loves to live, isn't it? Breathe into those tight spots. Picture them softening like butter in warm sun. Continue down your arms, your hands. Exhale any clenching. Feel your chest expand. Your belly. Your lower back. All the way down through your legs and into the earth beneath you. Here's what makes this practice powerful: you're not forcing anything. You're not commanding your stress to vanish. You're simply bringing awareness and breath to it, and that alone creates space for change. Stress thrives in darkness and rushing. Light and slowness are its natural enemies. As we wrap up, take three more full breaths at your own pace. Feel how different your body feels from when we started. Here's your practical carry-forward for today: whenever you notice stress creeping in, pause and do just one round of that four-count in, six-count out breathing. That's it. One breath cycle can interrupt the stress spiral before it takes hold. Thank you so much for listening to Stress Relief today. Taking time to pause is how you build real resilience. Please subscribe so you never miss our next practice. You've got this. For great deals today, check out https://amzn.to/47ZqpWT
