Stress as Weather: How to Let Your Clouds Pass By

Hey there, and welcome back. I'm Julia Cartwright, and I'm so glad you're here. You know, it's Monday morning, early August, and if there's any time of year when stress likes to creep in like an uninvited guest, it's now. Summer's fading, things are shifting, and our nervous systems can feel that change whether we realize it or not. So today, we're going to give your stress exactly what it needs: some space to breathe, literally. Let's settle in together. Find yourself somewhere quiet, even if it's just a corner of your kitchen. Sit however feels good, feet on the ground if you can. Close your eyes whenever you're ready, or soften your gaze down. No judgment here. Take a gentle breath in through your nose, and let it drift out through your mouth like you're fogging a window. Again. In through the nose. Out through the mouth. Notice how that feels different from your regular breathing? That's your first clue that you're already shifting gears. Now, here's what we're going to do. I want you to imagine your stress as weather. Not as some permanent thing, but as clouds passing through a sky. Your body is that sky, and it's vast enough to hold anything. Breathe in slowly for a count of four. As you do, notice where you feel tension. Your shoulders? Your jaw? Your chest? Don't try to fix it yet, just notice it like you're watching clouds rolling in. Hold that breath for a count of four. This is the stillness between storms. This is where you have power. Now exhale for a count of six, longer than your inhale. As you do, imagine those tension clouds getting lighter, softer, starting to drift. You're not pushing them away; you're just letting gravity do its thing. Do this with me four more times. In for four, hold for four, out for six. Each time, you're giving your nervous system a message: you are safe right now. This moment is manageable. That's it. Beautiful. One more thing before we wrap up. Tonight, when something stressful pops up, try this once before you react. One round of that four-four-six breathing. You might be amazed at how much it shifts. Thank you so much for spending this time with me on Stress Relief. Your willingness to pause and practice is exactly what the world needs more of.
