15: Being a Keto Couple, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
We’re so thankful for the opportunity to share this keto way of eating as a couple. But, being a keto couple is no bed of roses. Just because we share a keto lifestyle doesn’t mean we’re always in perfect harmony. In today’s episode we talk about what it’s like to be a keto couple: the good, the bad and the ugly! 0:00-2:43 Does being a keto couple mean “happily ever after?” There’s some good, bad and ugly aspects of being a keto couple. Don’t have a fairy tale perspective of being a keto couple. Having a partner doing keto with you doesn’t necessarily provide the magic resolve for your own personal keto journey. ———————— 02:44—4:00How do I convince my partner to try keto? Be consistent in your own keto journey. ———————— 4:01-9:20What’s good about being a keto couple? You know you’re both trying to eat to better health. You don’t have to constantly explain why you’re eating what you’re eating. Your home can be a safe place. We aren’t trying to tempt one another or undermine each other’s goals. We both define healthy food the same way now. It’s possible you only have to make one meal. ———————— 9:21-18:00What’s bad about being a keto couple? You may not get away with only making one meal because you have different tastes. One of you may be prioritizing health and the other is prioritizing weight. It can be a let down when keto doesn’t fulfill that romantic cooking together fantasy. Meal prepping isn’t like you imagine: playfully flicking droplets of water at each other. ————— 18:01-25:31What’s ugly about being a keto couple? Do we let one another know when we’re struggling? Not discussing struggles can lead to closet eating. What if one of you is losing weight faster than the other? Extended fasting can cause extra stress on the relationship. You have different hunger and satiation points. ————— 25:32 - endHow can a keto couple keep the peace? Stop shopping in your partner’s journey. Keep the dialog open and honest. Don’t make keto the only thing you do together. Schedule discussions about struggles instead of just allowing for random venting. Don’t compare you and your partner to other keto couples. Choose a coach outside of the relationship. No person can “complete” you. 12: Are Your Thoughts Tricks or Treats?
Success on keto doesn't just require beef, butter, bacon and eggs. It requires a positive mindset. A negative mindset can really slow down your progress, limit your hope for the future and maybe even cause you to give up on your keto journey altogether. In today's podcast, we discuss some of the ways our thoughts have tricked us into settling for less than our potential. We treat ourselves to an exercise on redirecting our thoughts and celebrating our keto lifestyle. KEY QUOTE: “If you have a negative mindset, you can really slow your progress down, not have hope for the future or give up altogether.” SHOW RUNDOWN: 2:00-5:55 Intro to topic “Sometimes the thoughts that we have are very spooky.” What steps can we take to speak positively to ourselves? “We don’t have to have a climate of negativity and worry.” “Every single time we have a thought, we’re listening.” “We need to come to every single plate with a good attitude.” “Negative thinking undermines our motivation.” 5:56-8:00 Negative thought: “this isn’t fair.” “It is disproportional in our favor that we are able to eat this way.” 8:01-10:50Where did this thought originate? “Is this actually my line or is it someone else’s script about me?” 10:51-13:55 When did this thought originate? “How many times have I tricked myself into settling because I have had a negative thought about myself?” “I’ve tricked myself out of advancement because of negative thoughts about myself.” 13:56-19:49 Is this thought true at all? Take time to fact check. Don’t make general, wide-sweeping statements about ourselves. 19:50-23:03 How do my thoughts see-saw my life? “Are my thoughts more effective at motivating me or are they more effective at allowing me to give up?” “Is this thought motivating me to make a change if I need to or is it tricking me into continuing bad patterns?” “If you give a large sanctuary to negative thinking, you will tire yourself out when it comes to wanting to do better.” 23:04-26:00 How can I tell the difference between negative thoughts and motivating thoughts? “Would I say this thought, out loud, to someone I care about?” “If we look in the mirror and convince ourselves we’re never going to amount to anything, then we’re never going to amount to anything.” 26:01-36:43 Practice reframing our thoughts “I may not be at optimal Rachel, but I’m not where I use to be.” “If I was able to get through 30 days of BBBE, then I can get through the holidays successfully.” “This is not a diet. This is a lifestyle. By changing the word, I changed history.” “A diet has an end, a lifestyle doesn’t.” “Hey, there’s new information about me. I need to update my records.” “Do we want to keep heading toward this spooky door and knocking on it?” Head to 2 Krazy Ketos to learn more about the Ketogenic Lifestyle!
