Why Caleb Flynn Told a Detective He Had Nothing to Hide

Detective Mike Morgan sat across from Caleb Flynn at 4:28 in the morning on February 16, 2026. Ashley Flynn had been found with two gunshot wounds to the back of her head, their two daughters asleep in the next room. Morgan had questions. Flynn had answers. On Day 7 of Flynn’s aggravated murder trial, the jury heard both — and watched Flynn’s story allegedly come apart.

The first question was simple. Morgan asked to see Flynn’s texts with Ashley. There were none. Flynn blamed storage space. Prosecutors allege the same phone contained 107,000 messages between Flynn and Alleigha Botner, the woman they say he’d been having an affair with. The texts with his wife were allegedly the only ones he deleted.

Flynn told Morgan nobody had problems with the couple. FBI Special Agent Kinzig testified earlier in the trial that a murder-for-hire tip had surfaced during the investigation — one that allegedly pointed at Flynn.

Flynn’s theory was an intruder — someone who came through a side door in the garage. Day 7 testimony established that the damage to that door was allegedly visible only from the inside. The marks were on the wrong side for a break-in.

Flynn said he was asleep by 11:30 p.m. Ashley’s Apple Watch allegedly recorded activity until approximately 2:28 a.m. Flynn called 911 at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Toward the end, Flynn mentioned a handgun from his truck that nobody had asked about. The weapon that allegedly killed Ashley Flynn has never been recovered. Flynn told Morgan he couldn’t describe the gun he says he owned.

Then he told Morgan something no detective had suggested — that it felt like they were pointing at him. He denied laying a hand on Ashley — an answer to a question the detective never asked.
