Elves, Fairies, and the Unseen World: The Dark Folklore Behind Christmas Traditions

🌲 Elves, Fairies, and the Hidden Origins of Christmas Folklore In this episode of Broadcasting Seeds, host Bennett Tanton takes you deep into the mysterious world behind Christmas elves and fairies — far beyond the cute toy-shop helpers and glitter-wing decorations we see today. We trace these beings back to ancient pagan folklore, Norse and Celtic traditions, and the early blending of Christian symbolism with older spiritual beliefs. You’ll discover how elves and fairies were once viewed as powerful, unpredictable, and deeply connected to the unseen world of nature, and how over time they transformed into playful icons of the modern holiday season. From the Nordic Nisse/Tomte spirit who protects the homestead, to the Celtic fairies who symbolize both generosity and mischief, this episode explores the dual nature of these legendary beings — guardians, tricksters, helpers, and reminders of balance. This isn’t just mythology. These stories whisper deeper truths about respect, gratitude, kindness, and the spiritual meaning woven into Christmas traditions. Along the way, we look at how folklore reflects our own behavior, and why mischief in myth often mirrors the parts of ourselves we’d rather not notice. If you love ancient legends, pagan origins, Christmas mythology, elves, fairies, spiritual symbolism, or supernatural folklore — this episode is for you. 🔎 What You’ll Learn
