The Weight We Carry: When the Scale Becomes More Than a Number

What if the weight we carry isn't only on our bodies?

In this deeply personal Mental Health Monday, Meredith opens up about her complicated relationship with weight, body image, self-worth, and the pressure many women feel to constantly become a smaller, younger, or somehow "better" version of themselves.

From a lifetime spent as a professional performer where appearance was often part of the job, to motherhood, aging, hormonal changes, wellness goals, and entering a new chapter of life, Meredith asks an important question:

When did the number on the scale become a measurement of how we feel about ourselves?

This isn't an episode about giving up on health goals. It's about examining what's underneath them.

Why can losing a few pounds make us feel successful while gaining them makes us feel like we've failed? Why do so many of us know exactly what we're "supposed" to do, yet struggle to do it consistently? And can we pursue better health without making our bodies the enemy?

Meredith explores the invisible weight so many of us carry alongside the physical—the expectations, perfectionism, comparison, shame, emotional eating, aging, and years of messages about what our bodies are supposed to look like.

And this conversation sets the stage for Friday's episode with Dr. Andrea Maxim, a naturopathic doctor who joins Meredith to dig deeper into the relationship between the mind and body—and why simply knowing what to do isn't always enough to create lasting change.

Maybe the goal isn't just to lose the weight. Maybe it's time to understand the weight we've been carrying with us.

A vulnerable Mental Health Monday about health, identity, self-compassion, and learning to work with our bodies instead of constantly fighting against them.
