The Job That Almost Kept Her Drinking

The Job That Almost Kept Her Drinking

How do you quit drinking when your job is getting other people to drink? For years, that was Kelly's daily reality. She sampled wine and liquor with retailers all day, then went out drinking with her coworkers once the samples were done, and some nights she couldn't drive home afterward. She kept a tablecloth in the back seat of her car for exactly those nights, climbing back there to sleep it off instead of getting behind the wheel. Quitting drinking while working in alcohol sales meant unlearning her entire job description, and almost ten months later, she no longer needs that tablecloth. Kelly and Coach Cole discuss: Growing up with wine treated as a nightly ritual, and how that shaped her first years of drinking Losing her senior season and her team captaincy after one night out with alcohol What working in alcohol sales and distribution did to her drinking, and what daily industry culture looked like from the inside Tracking her drinks in an app and mistaking a lower number for freedom Learning to treat a slip as a data point instead of a reason to quit trying Naming her drunk self "Kelly Lynn," and what it took to stop holding her at arm's length And more on rediscovering travel, music, and finding her way back to who she was before alcohol took over… Ready to take the next step?
