Mexican Oregano with Jesus Garcia

Mexican Oregano with Jesus Garcia

It was truly a delight to connect with Jesus Garcia. And it was so interesting to learn about Mexican oregano (Lippia graveolens), a plant I wasn’t familiar with before this episode.

I think you’ll love hearing Jesus share memories of how his grandmother turned to Mexican oregano for food and medicine.

There’s no doubt that plants can be deeply nourishing and healing to our bodies. But I love how Jesus embodies the awareness that plant medicine can go far beyond the physical to encompass connection, nurturing, and positive movement.

Which leads me to the work Jesus does with kids in the school systems just outside of Austin, Texas. (It seriously made me wish I could be one of the students in his preK classes!)

If nurturing a connection between children and our beautiful Earth is one of your values, I suspect you’ll come away from this episode with a LOT of ideas and inspiration for:

► How a food forest can evolve into a place of peace and sanctuary

► How plants can be a caretaker and the caregiver for community

► How children can make their own medicine

Here is one of my favorite takeaways from our conversation:

“Every little pocket of our gardens and our food forest has not only food. It has a beautiful sensation of spiritual care.”

For those who don’t already know Jesus, he is a Mexican Shaman and Herbalist teaching the traditions of lineage work through botanical practices of curanderia and community spiritual herbalism.

Jesus is an early childcare educator focusing on nature school fundamentals through holistic enrichment garden programs and is the founder of the HerbalActionProject, a nature play-school and community.

If you’d like to hear more from Jesus, which I highly recommend, then head to the show notes where you can get an easy link for his website and social media channels. You can also find the transcript for this episode in the show notes.

I’m thrilled to share our conversation with you today!
