What role do partnerships play in your scaling strategy? - EP 155

In this episode of the podcast, I dive into one of the most essential lessons for scaling your business: If you want to go far, go together. I've seen business partnerships flourish—and I've seen them fail. The biggest reason for failure? Lack of clarity from the start. When Brent and I built Genesis, we were crystal clear on our roles—he handled marketing and backend operations, while I focused on the medical side and patient care. That clarity allowed us to grow without stepping on each other's toes. On top of that, having solid contracts in place is non-negotiable. Good contracts make good friends, setting expectations for both the highs and lows. At Genesis, we've also implemented profit sharing and equity opportunities for long-term employees who live and breathe our core values, rewarding them for their dedication. When people feel ownership—whether literal or emotional—they work harder, stay loyal, and help propel the business forward.

Scaling a business isn't just about internal partnerships—it's about seeing every connection as a potential ally in your growth. Many entrepreneurs overlook their vendors, but the truth is, every vendor you pay is a partner in your business. Your cost of goods sold represents a percentage of your business that your vendors are essentially part of. Treat them like partners—because when you grow, they grow. Don't be afraid to ask them about complementary services that can help you boost revenue. Beyond vendors, local businesses and providers can be invaluable allies. If you run a hormone therapy or weight loss clinic, connect with local gyms, primary care providers, or wellness studios. Offer free treatments to gym owners or trainers—if they see results, they'll refer clients. Strategic alliances create a win-win situation. Clients get better results, you get more referrals, and partnering businesses retain happier clients. These connections build a powerful network that supports growth for everyone involved.

But here's the hard truth—if you're still working in your business every day without a team to back you up, you don't own a business—you have a job. You need a clinic director or operations manager who can handle day-to-day tasks so you can step back and scale. Without that, you're stuck trading hours for dollars, and when it comes time to sell, your business won't fetch the multiple it should. Building strategic partnerships internally (through team leadership) and externally (through local collaborations) is how you free yourself to work on the business, not in it. Remember, if you want to go fast, you can go alone—but if you want to go far, you need to go together.

Welcome to The Spinoso Podcast hosted by CEO, doctor, comic book geek, and car guy, Alex Spinoso. I help people and companies grow - especially in the medical business. While my experience and expertise is in scaling all types of medical businesses to 7, 8, 9-figures or more, I can be a mentor to anyone who wants to take ownership of their lives, become a better leader at home and at work, and overcome any obstacle that stands in their way.
