Millwall 0-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. What is it about this Forest team and late goals?! This time it was a 91st minute winner from Lewis Grabban that secured a dramatic victory for Steve Cooper's side at The New Den, after a see-saw second half which saw chances galore for Forest, as well as several opportunities for the hosts, who were twice denied brilliantly by Brice Samba in the Forest net. Grabban replaced Philip Zinckernagel in the starting XI, playing just behind Keinan Davis, but it was Forest who struggled to get much going in the first half, only coming into proceedings just before the break. The Reds were much-improved in the second, with some fluent passing from Ryan Yates and James Garner, the guile of Grabban and Davis and the lively Brennan Johnson causing Millwall all kinds of problems. The game saw plenty of chances come and go for both sides, with Forest in particular forcing good saves out of Bartosz Bialkowski in the Lions goal and seeing efforts cleared off the line, before Grabban stepped up with minutes remaining to send the travelling Forest fans wild. Steven is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Forest's staying power once again came to the fore. They talk about the importance of Lewis Grabban to the side, how the Reds approached the game in the right manner as well as the belief and determination that the team continues to show under Cooper. Nottingham Forest 0-1 Huddersfield Town: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It's a bit of a shock to the system to lose two matches in a row after the run that Forest have been on since Chris Hughton left, but a Covid-disrupted Reds team will feel that they should have got at least a point, and probably three, out of this one - they certainly had enough chances. Baz is joined by Tom Newton to discuss a match where Huddersfield only had three real shots on target, but scored the only goal; whereas Forest just couldn't put the ball in the net. Was Steve Cooper out-manoeuvred tactically by Carlos Corberan, or was the defeat down to the lack of depth in the Forest squad? Despite the disappointing last few days, we are still optimistic for the New Year. We want to thank you for listening and wish you all a healthy and happy new year. Middlesbrough 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. We knew this would happen eventually, and today Chris Wilder's Middlesbrough were tactically and physically superior to Forest for 90% of the match. A woeful own goal by Ryan Yates gave the hosts the lead, and they really should have scored three or four before the break. Forest had a good ten minute spell on the hour, but Philip Zinckernagel and Joe Worrall were off target, and Andraz Sporar put the game to bed shortly afterwards. Rich Ferraro and the Maradona of the Midlands discuss the game, in particular the full-back positions, Steve Cooper's tactical options, and introduction of Joao Carvalho and Xande Silva from the bench. Nottingham Forest 2-1 Hull City: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Another victory for Forest, but a hard-fought one where the Reds had to come from behind and overcome losing two players to injury. It was a murky day by the Trent, and with the spectre of Covid causing disruption to football and our Christmas plans, this was a day when things could have gone awry, especially after Kean Lewis-Potter opened the scoring just before the break. However, second half goals from Lewis Grabban (pen) and Brennan Johnson saw the home team claim victory and the fans leave with smiles on their faces. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to talk about the misfortunes of Jordi Osei-Tutu and Alex Mighten, who both made good contributions before succumbing to injury; a controversial penalty; and the brilliance of Johnson's finish when bagging the winning goal. We will be back before Christmas with our monthly show - keep an eye on your feeds and join in our Twitter polls if you can! Swansea City 1-4 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. Forest go from strength to strength under Steve Cooper with a brilliant 4-1 win at Swansea City; the Reds putting in a clinical performance against Cooper's former employers and providing the travelling Reds supporters with a day to remember. The first half was a goalless affair, with Swansea just edging it on chances created. However, the second half saw five goals, four of them for the visitors! Philip Zinckernagel got things going with a ferocious strike from just inside the area on 48 minutes before Lewis Grabban doubled Forest's lead two minutes later after a fine move orchestrated by Djed Spence and Brennan Johnson down the right. Joel Piroe made it 2-1 with a shot that deflected in off Ryan Yates but Johnson restored the two-goal cushion soon after as he pounced on a mistake by Swans goalkeeper Ben Hamer. Swansea pushed in the closing stages but Cooper's men wrapped things up in injury time as Cafu fired home Lyle Taylor's cutback to seal a tremendous win. Steven Toplis is joined by Tom Newton to reflect on events in South Wales, including Forest's clinical qualities, Cooper's continued impact, the return of Jordi Osei-Tutu and our new centre-back - Ryan Yates! Nottingham Forest 2-0 Peterborough United: The 1865 Match Report
1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. After three successive Championship draws, Forest got back to winning ways against struggling Peterborough, on a wet and blustery City Ground afternoon. The first half offered very little in terms of quality, although Philip Zinckernagel almost put the Reds ahead within the first minute as his drive from range was tipped away by Posh 'keeper David Cornell, and later Lewis Grabban later fired into the side netting from an angle. The second half was a big improvement; Forest came out pressing Peterborough higher up the pitch, playing with a greater pace and intensity. They were rewarded on 72 minutes as Grabban's miscued finish fell to James Garner in the box to prod home, before Ryan Yates wrapped things up 12 minutes later (even if he didn't know much about it!) as he turned Garner's corner into the net. The performance of the referee (suprise, surprise) frustrated both Forest and Peterborough, particularly the Reds when he turned down a strong second-half handball penalty shout with the score at 0-0. In the end it didn't matter as Forest did what they needed to in order to win, leaving them six points off the playoffs and with a record of 27 points and one defeat from their last 14 games. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis to mull over Saturday's events, with Grabban, Garner, the referee and the weather all featuring!
