In 2016, the World Economic Forum published a short promotional video imagining the world of 2030. Among its predictions: "You'll own nothing. And you'll be happy." The clip circulated widely on social media and became one of the most shared pieces of conspiratorial evidence of the following years — cited as proof that the global elite, assembled at Davos every January, were openly advertising their intention to strip ordinary people of property, privacy, and autonomy in the name of a technocratic future they had already decided upon. The WEF video was, in its original context, a speculative piece about sharing economies, rental models, and resource efficiency — but its phrasing, stripped of that context, became a crystallising moment for a movement that had been building since Klaus Schwab published The Great Reset in 2020, his vision for remaking global capitalism in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In this episode of The Conspiracy Theory Analyst, we examine the World Economic Forum, the Great Reset agenda, and the specific claims that the WEF represents a coordinating body for global elite governance — examining what the forum actually does, what Schwab's agenda actually proposes, and where legitimate concern about concentrated power ends and conspiratorial overreach begins.

The World Economic Forum was founded in 1971 by Klaus Schwab, a German engineer and economist, as a venue for bringing together political and business leaders to discuss global economic challenges. It is funded by its 1,000 member companies — all of them with annual revenues over approximately five billion dollars — and by participant fees from the roughly 3,000 individuals who attend the annual Davos summit. Its membership includes heads of state, CEOs of major multinational corporations, central bank governors, media executives, and representatives of international institutions. It is, by any measure, an extraordinary concentration of economic and political power gathered in one place, annually, to discuss the future of the global economy in conversations that are largely private.

The Great Reset, as Schwab describes it, is a proposal to use the disruption of the pandemic as an opportunity to accelerate structural changes in capitalism: toward greater corporate responsibility, stakeholder rather than shareholder governance, green investment, and digital transformation. Critics from the left argue that it is a corporate capture of the reform agenda — using the language of social and environmental concern to entrench the power of the same multinational interests that have driven inequality for decades. Critics from the right argue that it is a blueprint for socialist or technocratic control — the end of private property, individual liberty, and national sovereignty.
